Beyond the ropes · Through gates
Suginohara lets riders out of the managed area only through its gates, after they file a climbing plan with the patrol office. The resort takes no responsibility for anyone beyond the boundary, and the rider pays for any search or rescue.
- Leave the ski area only through a gate. Riders who leave anywhere else can be asked to hand back their lift ticket.
- File a climbing plan with the patrol office before you use the lifts to go beyond the boundary.
- Filing a plan puts no search duty on the resort. It only helps police and fire crews respond faster.
- Anyone rescued off the courses or outside the area pays the full cost of the search and rescue.
- Stay away from ropes, closed-area signs and bamboo poles, and ride with a partner.

Season 2026/27
Buy the right ticket
Prince had not published 2026/27 day prices by 11 October 2026; its lift page still shows the 2025/26 table, when an adult day ticket cost ¥8,000 at the window and a two-day ticket ¥15,000. Children up to elementary-school age ride free. Prince's notice of 17 September 2026 says Suginohara has stopped selling its own season passes (all-days, weekday and 50-hour) and its early-bird and advance lift and gondola tickets for 2026/27. A Madarao and Suginohara 5Days Snow Pass is planned, valid on Madarao's Mountain Pass area and at Suginohara, with details to follow. The Mt. MYOKO Super Season Pass still works here (¥130,000 at the regular price, ¥110,000 early bird to 30 November 2026).
These passes cover days here
- Ikon PassIkon Pass: 7 days at each of the ten Japanese mountains, no blackouts. Ikon Base Pass: 5 days at each. Ikon Session Pass: Niseko United only (2, 3 or 4 day options).

- Drive
- Joshin-etsu Expressway to Myoko-Kogen IC, then up to Suginosawa.
- Train
- Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano, then the Shinano Railway Kita-Shinano Line to Myoko-Kogen. The Myoko Kogen Liner bus or a taxi covers the last stretch to Suginohara.
The Mt. MYOKO shuttle runs between Akakura, Ikenotaira and Suginohara in the main season.
The nearest station is Myoko-Kogen. Shinano Railway and Echigo TOKImeki Railway; take the Myoko Kogen Liner bus or a taxi up to the resort.
Prince says the car park runs smaller for 2026/27 and charges a fee every day, with a temporary overflow lot planned nearby. In 2025/26 parking was free on weekdays and ¥1,000 per car on weekends and holidays.
Suginohara spreads up the slopes of Mt. Myoko above the village of Suginosawa. The Suginohara Gondola lifts you out of the base, and two high-speed quads on the Mitahara side carry you on to the top at 1,855 metres. Prince quotes 1,124 metres of vertical and a longest run of about 8.5 kilometres. On a clear day you look straight down onto Lake Nojiri with the mountains of northern Nagano behind it.
Most of the mountain is wide and gentle. The Shirakaba Trail winds from the top of the gondola almost to the base, and Panorama Trail gives beginners a way down from the high lifts. The steep ground sits right at the top. Super Giant and Super Mogul drop off the top of the Mitahara lifts, and Myoko Tourism points to tree runs up there as well.
Prince is running Suginohara differently in 2026/27. The resort has stopped its own season passes and early-bird tickets. Its car park is smaller this winter and charges a fee every day. Children up to elementary-school age still ride free. Suginohara joined the Ikon Pass in winter 2025, and its pass holders scan straight in at the gates without a reservation.
Worth knowing
- Ikon Pass holders can go straight to the lift gates. If the card will not scan, the ticket counter issues a local pass.
- The Mt. MYOKO shuttle links Suginohara with Ikenotaira and Akakura in the main season.
- Prince recommends helmets on every slope here.
