Get thereアクセス
From Tokyo Station
- Drive
- About three hours from Tokyo by the Kan-etsu and Joshin-etsu expressways to Myoko-Kogen IC, then eight minutes to the resort.
- Train
- Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano, then the Shinano Railway Kita-Shinano Line to Myoko-Kogen. From Myoko-Kogen take a local bus or taxi up to Akakura.
Coming from Kanazawa, the Hokuriku Shinkansen stops at Joetsu-Myoko, where the Myoko Haneuma Line runs on to Myoko-Kogen.
The nearest station is Myoko-Kogen. Shinano Railway Kita-Shinano Line from Nagano, or the Myoko Haneuma Line from Joetsu-Myoko.
A free car park beside the slopes holds about 1,000 cars. The free AKAKAN shuttle runs 08:00–16:40 from the Waku Hotel, Nakamuraya and the Akakura bus terminal to the Skycable base, for resort customers only.
Akakura Kanko opened in 1937 as one of Japan's first European-style ski areas, and the Akakura Kanko Hotel still sits halfway up the slope with the runs at its door. The resort brands itself AKAKAN. The Myokokogen Skycable climbs from the base car park to the upper restaurant, and a set of quads works the slopes around the hotel. The top sits at about 1,500 metres and looks out over Lake Nojiri.
The Champion side is the reason to come. Champion B is a sanctioned race course with a view from the start that runs to the Sea of Japan on a clear day. Champion A is the steepest run on the map and stays ungroomed. Hotel A is the other ungroomed line, and Joshi Kokutai often keeps powder on its upper half because the crews leave it alone after snowfall.
Beginners have the Hotel Beginner Course along the No.1 lift, with parking right beside it, and a netted snow play area at the bottom of the hotel slope. Bakery & Table Akakura near the Skycable base serves pizza and pasta beside bread from the hotel bakery. A free AKAKAN shuttle loops from Akakura Onsen village to the Skycable base every day of the main season, which makes it easy to stay in the village and skip the car.
Worth knowing
- Buy the Akakura joint day ticket if you want to cross into Akakura Onsen, where the lights came on every evening in 2025/26. Arai Mountain Resort also ran night riding that season and has not yet published its 2026/27 night schedule.
- From 23 March the spring day ticket drops to ¥4,000, and the season runs to 5 May.
- The free shuttle from Akakura Onsen village runs from 19 December 2026 to 22 March 2027 (planned), with extra midday runs on weekends.
- Buy tickets at the resort counter or on the official site; the operator warns that resold tickets cause problems at the gates.
