Omishima

Omishima is the largest island in Ehime and the prefecture's northernmost point, joined to Ikuchijima by the Tatara Bridge, which opened in 1999. Oyamazumi Shrine stands on the west coast at Miyaura, under Mt. Washigato, in a grove of camphor trees protected as a natural monument. It was the chief shrine of old Iyo Province, and the treasures in its museum, opened in 1926, give Omishima its name as the island of national treasures.

Citrus farming is the main work, and the island has drawn new residents in recent years after a long fall in population. Riders crossing from Setoda reach the island at the Tatara end; the shrine is a ride across the island to the west. Ferries also run to Tadanoumi in Takehara.
