Atsuo Tokoro opened this museum of contemporary art in spring 2004 on a rise above the Seto Inland Sea. Its design borrows from Noah's Ark after the landing on Mount Ararat. You move between rooms by stepping out onto a promenade, so the sea and the weather become part of the visit.
About 30 works are on show by artists who include Noe Katz, whose Kissing Doors greet you at the entrance, Marisol, Tom Wesselmann and Giacomo Manzu. Japanese sculpture by Norichika Hayashi and Takashi Fukai sits among them. Adults pay ¥310, and anyone under 18 goes in free. The Toyo Ito Museum of Architecture is a few minutes along the same road.
