WAKKA
¥4,800 a night
WAKKA sits on the water at Inokuchi on Omishima, looking toward the Tatara bridge and Ikuchijima. It mixes compact bunk rooms, cottages, dome tents, a pair of trailers and a residence with its own deck and bath. The bunk rooms sleep four, lock automatically and include breakfast in the café. Cottages and domes come with a ticket for a nearby bath.
Cycling support is the reason to stay. WAKKA rents bikes and will return a rental you picked up in Onomichi or Imabari. It also carries bags or bikes ahead the same day. If a ride goes wrong, its taxis collect riders by car or boat. Its self-repair pit lends tools free to anyone passing.
Dinner follows the season: a barbecue in summer and a bouillabaisse in winter, though the trailers keep the barbecue all year. The bunk rooms have no dinner plan, and a free shuttle runs three times an evening to island restaurants. WAKKA closes on Tuesdays with no make-up days, and the café posts its opening days each month.

How do you ride the Tobishima Kaido as a quieter day after Shimanami?
Start at JR Aki-Kawajiri and cross seven bridges to Okamura, where a 23-minute ferry carries you over to Omishima for the night. The boats set the shape of the day, so plan lunch around them.

How long does it take to cycle the Shimanami Kaido?
Most riders cross from Onomichi to Imabari in one full day. Split it with a night on Ikuchijima or Omishima if you want the islands, or take a sports e-bike and ride it in a morning, as long as it goes back before the terminal closes.
