Hakatajima lies between Omishima and Oshima and joined Imabari city in 2005. Four shipyards work its shores, and many shipowners live here. The island gave its name to Hakata no Shio, the salt brand, and the roadside station at Hakata S.C. Park sells a salt soft serve.
The Omishima Bridge links the island north to Omishima and the Hakata-Oshima Bridge south to Oshima, and the island works best as a lunch stop on the southern half of the route.
