Beyond the ropes · Marked runs only
APPI opens a tree-run zone for advanced riders and the gate-controlled Magic Forest. Every other stand of trees is outside the managed area or fully closed, and riding there is banned.
- Ride the tree-run zone only after reading and accepting its local rules. It is for advanced riders.
- Enter the Magic Forest only through its gate. Patrol closes the gate when conditions are poor.
- Stay out of all other trees, the areas outside the resort and any closed area. Ducking a rope is banned.
- APPI charges for rescues outside the managed area or in closed areas, and it bills its costs when its staff help police or fire crews you called directly.

The nearest station is Appi Kogen. JR Hanawa Line, about an hour from Morioka. Some trains wait a long time for a shuttle connection, so hotels pick up guests by request.
APPI spreads across Mt. Maemori and Mt. Nishimori in northern Iwate, with 21 courses and 43.1 km of runs between 620 m at the resort centre and 1,328 m on Nishimori. The ANA InterContinental and the ANA Crowne Plaza open straight onto the slopes.
Yamabato runs 5.5 km from the summit to the Shirakaba slope and stays gentle enough for a confident beginner. Hayabusa is the main course of the resort, and Okutaka's top section is left ungroomed for powder. On the Sailer side, 2nd Sailer A reaches 34° near the top and stays ungroomed. No run at APPI is steeper. Sailer Long runs 3 km to the Sailer base.
Inuwashi and Yamagara on the Nishimori side are advanced runs that APPI leaves ungroomed. The resort is pulling out the Red House and the Central No. 3 lift to build a new gondola, and some course layouts change this season, so check the 2026/27 map before you plan a day.
APPI hadn't published 2026/27 day tickets in early October 2026. The season pass runs from 6 December 2026 to 6 May 2027, which gives the likely shape of the season. In 2025/26 the resort ran four lifts in early season, seven in the main season and five in spring.
