APPI Kogen spreads across a plateau near the 40th parallel in the north of Hachimantai city, with beech woods and grassland under the snow. The resort's two big hotels, ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort and ANA Crowne Plaza Resort Appi Kogen, stand at the base, and the InterContinental was named a Michelin Key hotel for the third year running in September 2026. Every shuttle stops at the Crowne Plaza, and InterContinental guests board there too.
For winter 2026/27 the resort runs chartered buses for its hotel guests from 5 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. From Morioka Station they leave the West Exit at 12:00, 15:15 and 18:30, take about an hour and ten minutes and cost ¥2,200 for an adult. Buses from Iwate Hanamaki Airport take about an hour and a half for ¥3,500. A public route bus from Morioka was still being arranged in October 2026, and trains on the IGR and Hanawa lines reach Appi-Kogen Station from Morioka in about an hour.
Worth knowing
- Book the Morioka shuttle by 23:59 the day before you travel, and the airport buses at least four days ahead.
- Children under 13 pay half on the shuttles, and children aged three or under ride free.

How do you get to APPI from Tokyo?
Take the Tohoku Shinkansen to Morioka, 130 minutes on the fastest Hayabusa, then APPI's guests-only shuttle from the West Exit, about 70 minutes for ¥2,200. Trains also run from Morioka to Appi-Kogen Station in about an hour.
Does APPI run a shuttle from Sendai Airport?
Yes, for hotel guests. APPI lists chartered buses from Iwate Hanamaki, Odate-Noshiro, Sendai and Aomori airports and from Morioka Station between 5 December 2026 and 4 April 2027.
