Aara-Wakka is an eight-room pension on the Appi Kogen hillside, about ten minutes on foot from the ski area. Dinner at 18:30 is a set course built on local produce, and a bottle of wine suits it. Breakfast at 8:00 comes Western-style with coffee the owners roast themselves, a habit they brought from Nagoya. The house has two private baths with a jacuzzi tub in one and a granite tub in the other, and both are free without booking from 16:30 to 23:00.
Small dogs and cats can share your room for ¥1,100 a night, and larger dogs need a phone booking. The owners drive guests free to Appi-Kogen Station and the ski area when you arrange it ahead, though they ask you to avoid 18:00 to 20:00. Rakuten Travel shows no credit cards on site, so bring cash.
