Shimokura opens six tree-run areas on powder days for riders who register at the centre lodge. Outside the managed area the resort takes no responsibility and charges for rescues, and it recommends a local guide.
- Register at the Shimokura centre lodge and read the tree-run local rules before entering any tree-run area. Anyone who rides in without registering may be asked to leave.
- Wear a helmet in the tree-run areas, stay inside the pink tape and always ride out toward the marked exit.
- The tree-run areas open from 9:30 to 15:00 on days with good powder and close when conditions turn.
- Rescue outside the managed area is charged, and patrol may refuse a call when it risks a second accident.

Hachimantai Resort runs two ski areas below Mt. Hachimantai, joined by a free shuttle that takes ten minutes each way. Panorama opens right in front of the Hachimantai Mountain Hotel. Its seven runs are mostly beginner and intermediate slopes for children and adults learning together. Shimokura is the steeper area, and in late June 2026 its board still showed 280 cm at the top against 180 cm at Panorama.
Shimokura's draw is its six tree-run areas. FUN suits first-timers, and FUN+ and CASCADE are new for 2026/27. EDGE gets little sun and holds good snow for longer, and DROP pairs deep snow with steep pitches. The areas reach 37° at their steepest. You register at the centre lodge before riding any of them, and the pink tape marks every edge.
Iwate Backcountry Guides and Yoripy Tour run guided trips beyond the boundary, from first backcountry tours to gentle ski hikes on Mt. Nakakura. The resort hadn't set 2026/27 opening dates or day prices in early October, and its shuttle timetable runs from 19 December 2026 to 22 March 2027.
Worth knowing

- Register for the tree-run areas at the Shimokura centre lodge as soon as you arrive. They open at 9:30 on powder days.
- Mt. Iwate, south of the resort, returned to JMA Level 1 on 27 August 2026 after a spell at Level 2. JMA's Iwatesan page carries the current level.
