Sanosaka sits at the southern end of Hakuba village above Lake Aoki. You park beside Route 148, cross the Oito Line tracks and walk straight into Castor Plaza at the foot of the slopes, which makes it an easy place to bring small children.
The slopes are mostly gentle to moderate and look out over the lake and the snow-covered peaks. Tickets cost a little over half what the big Hakuba resorts charge, and the crowds stay away.
With a top of 1,200 m and natural snow only, Sanosaka has a short season. It plans to run from 18 December to 22 March, and in 2025/26 it shut on 15 March.
Worth knowing
- Buy the early-bird day ticket before 7 December for ¥4,900.
- Use parking lots 1 and 2 by the main road; lots 3 and 4 sit up a steep narrow lane.
