Obinata no Yu is an outdoor bath built around huge natural boulders above Hakuba, and it suits summer and autumn hikers driving to or from the Daisekkei trailhead; it opens only from late April to the end of October.
Getting there
About 3 km from Happo on the road toward the Hakuba Daisekkei snow valley, ten minutes by car from Hakuba Station.
Obinata no Yu lies about 3 km up the road from Happo toward the Hakuba Daisekkei, the long snow gully on Shirouma-dake. The baths are open-air only, one each for men and women, set among enormous boulders left where they sit. Being the closest bath to the Hakuba Happo Onsen source, it gets the alkaline water at its freshest.
In 2026 the season ran from 25 April to 31 October, with the doors open 12:00–18:00. Entry is ¥800 for adults. Shampoo and soap are free, and the counter sells towels for ¥300.
Worth knowing
- Last entry is 17:30, so time a descent from the Daisekkei trail to arrive before then.
- Out of season, Happo no Yu and Mimizuku no Yu are open all year.
