Hakuba Iwatake is a 1,289-metre summit above Hakuba village with a seven-minute gondola and a terrace facing the Hakuba Sanzan, and it suits families and anyone who wants the big Alps view without a hike; the 2026 green season ends on 15 November.

The Iwatake gondola climbs to the 1,289-metre summit in seven minutes, and the top opens onto lawns with a view all the way round over the Northern Alps and Hakuba village. Hakuba Mountain Harbor is a terrace about eight minutes from the gondola's base station that looks straight at the Hakuba Sanzan. The City Bakery, the New York bakery, runs the counter there.
Entry costs ¥2,900 for adults and ¥1,600 for primary school children in 2026, which covers the gondola and the No. 5 South lift in both directions. Dogs ride the gondola too, and the terrace lets them in. The No. 5 South lift carries you over to Hakuba Hitotoki no Mori, a second viewing area with a tea and scone shop.
Nezuko no Mori is a trekking loop of about 90 minutes through beech, oak and Japanese thuja up to 200 years old. In October 2026 tree felling kept it open on weekends and holidays only. Mountain carts, a giant swing, buggy tours and the MTB park keep the faster crowd busy, and most of them close for the year on 8 November.
Worth knowing
- A free village shuttle runs to the gondola from 4 to 15 November 2026.
- On a cloudy day, check the live camera first; the view is the reason to ride up.
- Pay for activities in cash; the summit's other shops take cards and IC transit cards.
