Gomidori
五味鳥34°04′ N 133°00′ EYakitori
Gomidori suits a first night of Imabari yakitori among regulars, and its trade-off is a 30-seat room with no car park. The Imabari tourism association credits it with starting the city's griddle style.
What to order
- Kawa, the griddle-pressed chicken skin
- Senzanki, Imabari-style fried chicken
Imabari cooks its yakitori flat on an iron griddle and presses it under a heavy lid, and the tourism association names Gomidori as the shop that started it about 60 years ago. A second-generation owner works the griddle now. For a first visit the association suggests the house kawa (chicken skin) and senzanki, Imabari's fried chicken, with a drink. Toribayashi stands in the same block of Minami-Daimon-cho, so two shops in one evening takes a few minutes on foot.
Worth knowing
- The tourism association lists no parking, so walk over from a hotel near Imabari Station.
