Kawaguchiko suits riders on the Fuji Five Lakes in spring and autumn who want Fuji across the water and a pot of hoto after, and frost can ice its lake roads on winter mornings.

Things to do in Kawaguchiko
Kawaguchiko is the lake town on Fuji's north side, in the town of Fujikawaguchiko. Riders use it for the lake loops and for the climb to Misaka Pass, where Tenka Chaya has served hoto to travellers crossing the 1,300 m pass since 1934 and keeps a room for the novelist Dazai Osamu. The teahouse may close on bad winter days.
Hoto is the meal here. Yamanashi's tourism office lists Hoto Fudo on the north shore and Hoto-gura Funari in Funatsu, with pots at ¥1,320 to ¥1,650. After a ride, Yurari over the town line in Narusawa has open-air tubs that face Fuji.
Spring and autumn are the riding seasons. Winter often brings the clearest views of the mountain, and the red winter Fuji gives a bath at Lake Yamanaka its name.
