K's House Mt. Fuji
¥2,500 a night
K's House Mt. Fuji opened as the first backpackers' hostel in the Fuji Five Lakes area, and it sits 1.2 km from Kawaguchiko station on the Fujikyu line. Dorm beds start at ¥2,500 a night in the regular season. Tatami rooms sleep up to six, and some have their own bath and toilet. The hostel serves no food, so most guests shop at the stores five minutes away and cook in the shared kitchen.
Rental bikes go out from 8:00 each morning, and the hostel sends riders round Lake Kawaguchi, which it says takes a few hours on an almost flat path. Bring your own bike and you'll want to ask reception where it can sleep, since the site lists no storage. Fuji isn't visible from inside the building, and the hostel says you see it a few steps out the door. Every room has a heater in winter, and reception keeps your bags from 8:00 until check-in.
