Fujiyoshida suits riders who want a working Fuji town with cheap noodles and quick trains, and it has fewer lake views than Kawaguchiko next door.

Things to do in Fujiyoshida
Fujiyoshida sits at the foot of Fuji on the north side, next to Lake Kawaguchi, and it is the main town of the Gunnai district. The city formed when three towns merged and put Fuji in front of the old name Yoshida. Its tourism site puts it about an hour and a half from central Tokyo by highway bus or train.
The town's own noodle is Yoshida udon, thick and firm, which comes from the same flour-eating culture as Yamanashi's hoto. Rice was hard to grow on the cold lava plateau here, so wheat dishes filled the gap.
