Sunrise Itoyama

Sunrise Itoyama opened in 1999 with the Shimanami Kaido at Itoyama, on the Shikoku end of the Kurushima Kaikyo bridges. For 27 years it was the obvious first or last night for riders starting or finishing in Imabari. In March 2026 the city chose a group led by Yonden Business to rebuild the site. The renovated block will hold 23 rooms with a shower in each, sharing a large bath and a restaurant.

A second building follows on the seaward plot. Twenty single-storey villas with a sauna and a pool are due around winter 2028/29. Yasuhiro Yamashita of Atelier Tekuto designs both, and Hakatajima-born chef Tomohiko Murakami of Shimanami French Murakami in Osaka oversees the food. Until it reopens, base in central Imabari, where Cyclo no Ie, JR Clement Inn and Imabari Station Hotel all let bikes indoors.
