This ride strings all five Fuji lakes together on the lines that Yamanashi and Shizuoka publish for the third and fourth sections of the Fujiichi route round Mt. Fuji. It joins Fujiichi at Lake Yamanaka and follows it through Oshino and Fujiyoshida to Lake Kawaguchi. From there it runs on past Lakes Sai and Shoji and finishes with a lap of Lake Motosu.
Lake Yamanaka sits closest to Fuji of the five, and the Fujiichi notes mention a stretch of cycle path round its shore with gentle grades. Oshino Hakkai's spring-fed ponds sit just off the line on the way to Fujiyoshida.
The Fujiichi team describes the western lakes as calm lakeside roads with ups and downs through the forest between them. It singles out Lake Motosu for its clear water and the Fuji view across it, and Oishi Park on Lake Kawaguchi's north shore makes the obvious photo stop on the way.
Worth knowing
- Benifuji no Yu at Lake Yamanaka is shut for renovation until March 2027, so plan your bath for another day or another lake.
- If you'd rather ride a single lake, fujisanbike rents city bikes and e-bikes by the hour in Funatsu on Lake Kawaguchi.
