Onimen-an suits Hakkoda skiers and bathers who want a hot bowl of Sukayu's own soba after a morning on the mountain or a soak at the inn, and the trade-off is a long bus ride from Aomori if you come without a car.

Iwate, Aomori and Akita keep bear warnings in force through the autumn
Iwate has had a bear warning in force since 22 April 2026 after sightings ran far above the usual level, Aomori's warning runs from 20 April to 30 November 2026, and Akita's advisory covers October. Ride forest roads in daylight, carry a bell and keep to busier roads at dawn and dusk. Each prefecture's page lists the current sightings.

Onimen-an is the lunch restaurant of the Sukayu Onsen inn, high in the Hakkoda mountains south of Aomori city. Its Sukayu soba is made from buckwheat flour alone with no binder, and the broth is built on yakiboshi, which are grilled and dried sardines from Mutsu Bay. One May 2026 reviewer found the noodles soft, in the style of Tsugaru soba. Try the soba topped with an egg cooked in the Sukayu spring, or finish with the soba pudding.
Service runs from 10:00 to 16:30 every day, with last orders at 16:15, which leaves room for a late lunch after the ropeway. JR's Mizuumi bus from Aomori Station takes between 80 and 100 minutes, so check the winter timetable before you set off.
Worth knowing
- Bring cash; Tabelog lists no card payment.
- An extra-large serving of cold soba costs ¥300 more if you skied all morning.
