Jingisukan Lodge

Jingisukan Lodge suits skiers who want lamb from the owners' own flock at the foot of the Uenodai slope, and the trade-off is a price well above the onsen-town average.
What to order
- Yamagata lamb jingisukan with the rice set
- Mountain-grape cider made from the farm's own fruit
The lodge raises its own sheep and feeds them the skins and seeds left from pressing mountain grapes, which the owners say keeps the meat clean-tasting. A Tabelog reviewer places it at the base of the Uenodai run, so you can click out of your bindings and walk in for lunch. The dining room has a Showa-era feel and the building also takes overnight guests. Yamagata-raised lamb comes in limited daily quantities, and the kitchen keeps an Australian lamb jingisukan as the cheaper fallback.
Worth knowing
- Ask for the Yamagata lamb when you book, since the menu marks every cut of it as limited.
- The house mountain-grape cider comes from the same farm that feeds the sheep.
