Yamagata Sake Museum
山形酒のミュージアム38°10′ N 140°24′ EBar¥
The Yamagata Sake Museum suits anyone who wants to taste the prefecture's sake by the glass on a stroll through the onsen town, and the trade-off is a 17:00 close that ends the session before dinner.
What to order
- A flight of Yamagata ginjo
- Snacks from the Tsumami stall
The museum opened in February 2018 on the onsen street and pours sake from 49 Yamagata breweries. Yamagata was the first prefecture to win a geographical indication for its sake in 2016, and the museum's menu leans on the ginjo styles that made that name. Inns and the bus terminal hand out a coupon for one free tasting a person a day, so pick one up when you check in. The Yukemuri Yatai Tsumami stall shares the operation and serves Yamagata snacks to go with the glass.
Worth knowing
- Bring the free tasting coupon from your inn or the bus terminal; it covers one glass a person a day.
- There is no car park, so walk over from the ski-area lots.
