Ise suits anyone coming for Ise Jingu by bike or by train, and the 6 km road between the two shrines jams on long holidays, when the city closes streets round the Naiku.

Who should base here
Stay in Ise to walk into the Geku when the gates open at 5:00 and ride on to the Naiku in the cool of the morning.
Ise Jingu asks visitors to pray at the Geku first, about five minutes' walk from Iseshi Station, and then at the Naiku. The Miyuki road links the two in about 6 km; it was built in 1910 for the Emperor Meiji's visit. The Ise City Tourist Association rents bikes at Iseshi Station and outside the Geku, where city bikes cost ¥1,000 a day and e-assist bikes ¥2,000. At the Naiku you park in the bike lot in front of the Uji Bridge, where the guards show you a space.
Oharai-machi and Okage Yokocho line the street up to the Naiku. Fukusuke serves Ise udon from ¥650, and Akafuku's main shop serves only its red-bean mochi at the tables. From November to February the shops in Okage Yokocho open 9:30 to 17:00. The older road between the shrines runs through Furuichi, where Asakichi Ryokan has kept rooms for travellers for about 200 years.
Mie's route map lists Sanco Inn Iseshi-ekimae and Asakichi among its cyclist-friendly stays. The shrine's 63rd Shikinen Sengu is under way, and its second Okihiki timber-hauling season fills the town from May to July 2027.
