Fukusuke suits riders who want Ise udon a few minutes' walk from the Naiku, and the noodles are soft on purpose, which catches out anyone expecting firm udon.
What to order
- Ise udon, ¥650
- Handmade Ise udon from Mie wheat, ¥850
Fukusuke is the Ise udon shop in Okage Yokocho, styled after Dobu-roku, an Edo-period udon house on the pilgrim road. Ise udon is thick and soft with no bite, under a dark tare of tamari, kelp and bonito, and pilgrims ate it because the noodles sat ready on the boil. A bowl costs ¥650, or ¥850 for handmade noodles from Mie wheat. Last orders are at 16:30.
