Okihiki Gyoji

The Okihiki suits visitors who want to see Ise's own people haul timber for the new shrine, and it comes round only twice in a 20-year cycle, next from May to July 2027.
For each Shikinen Sengu, the people of Ise's old shrine lands and worshippers from across Japan haul the timber for the new sanctuaries into both precincts the old way. At the Naiku the logs come up the Isuzu River, and at the Geku they ride carts through the streets. Ise Jingu calls it the liveliest of all the Sengu events. The first round ran from May to July 2026, and the second runs over the same months in 2027.
The shrine's schedule gives the months and leaves the days for later. Watch from the riverbank or the roadside and do as the stewards say.
