Onomichi Base is a bike shop and rental station a few minutes' walk from Onomichi Station, and it runs the Shimanami Teburabin bag service for riders on any rental. You book online by 16:00 the day before and hand the bag in by noon at the shop or at your lodging. It waits at the next lodging that evening, and one booking can cover several nights in a row.
Fares go by distance, per bag. A hop within one island costs ¥1,500, Onomichi Base to Omishima costs ¥3,000 and Onomichi Base to Imabari costs ¥4,500. Bags can measure up to 160 cm in total and weigh up to 15 kg. In Imabari the service delivers only to lodgings within 2 km of Imabari Station, and pickups at Onomichi lodgings within 2 km of the station add ¥500.
