Anago no Nedoko
¥3,000 a night
The Onomichi Akiya Saisei Project, a group that rescues the town's empty houses, rebuilt this long, narrow townhouse in the shopping arcade as a guesthouse. Two dorms upstairs, one mixed and one for women, have handmade bunks with curtains, a light and a socket at each bed, and a Japanese-style private room suits a family or a small group.
Check in between 16:00 and 22:00; after that the booking counts as a same-day cancellation. Showers are shared, so the staff hand out a map of the old public baths for anyone who wants a long soak. Payment is cash on the spot, and children under school age cannot stay.
