Shibata suits families who want a filling Japanese dinner with an English menu on Akakura's main street, and its trade-off is a winter-only season.
What to order
- Katsudon with a bowl of Myoko rice
- Agedashi tofu
The family has run Shibata in Akakura for more than half a century, and it moved to its present spot on the main street in 2008. The menu is long and written in English, with vegetarian and vegan dishes.
The rice is Koshihikari from the Yamakawa family farm in Myoko, cooked fresh each evening with mountain water from behind Akakura. Myoko Tourism lists lunch from 11:00 to 14:00 and dinner from 17:00 to 21:00 in the winter season.
