Iwabee suits anyone who wants to try Onomichi-yaki with its chopped chicken gizzard, and the trade-off is a ten-seat griddle with no parking of its own.
What to order
- Onomichi-yaki with sunazuri (chicken gizzard) and ika-ten
- Iwabee-yaki (the house best seller) with mochi and pork
Half of the Aburaiwa shopfront sells lacquerware that the shopping street dates back 200 years, and the other half is Iwabee's okonomiyaki griddle. Onomichi-yaki builds on the layered Hiroshima style and adds chopped sunazuri gizzard and crunchy ika-ten with steamed noodles inside. Mapple's 2024 guide priced it at ¥950 and notes the local version runs a little small. The shop is about 15 minutes' walk east of Onomichi Station.
