The Sanyo Shinkansen is the fast way from Osaka to Fukuyama and Onomichi for the Shimanami Kaido, about an hour on a Nozomi. Big bags follow the same booking rule as the Tokaido Shinkansen.

JR West runs the Sanyo Shinkansen west from Shin-Osaka to Hakata. Nozomi 101 took 61 minutes to Fukuyama in the 2026 timetable. Only the Kodama stops at Shin-Onomichi. A Nozomi to Fukuyama with a change to the Kodama reached Shin-Onomichi 73 minutes after Shin-Osaka.
JR West asks riders on the Sanyo Shinkansen to book a seat with an oversized-baggage area for any bag over 160 cm in length, width and height combined. Bikes travel taken apart in a dedicated bag, and JR West lists a bagged bike among the items carried free.
