Nagoya suits travellers who need a night beside the Shinkansen on the way to Ise or Gifu's snow, and the city traffic makes the first ride out of town the slowest part of the day.

Things to do in Nagoya
Nagoya Station sits on the Tokaido Shinkansen, and the Kintetsu terminal beside it runs limited expresses south to Iseshi. The Marriott Associa has its rooms in the tower above the JR station, and Sanco Inn is a minute's walk from the Shinkansen exit, so a bagged bike never has to cross the city. This site starts every journey into Gifu-Hida from here, Okumino's ski areas included.
Eat before you leave. Yabaton has served miso katsu since 1947, and its main branch in Osu stays open 11:00 to 21:00 every day; there's a Yabaton in the Esca arcade under the Shinkansen side of the station too. Atsuta Horaiken opened in 1873 on the old Tokaido at Miya and holds the hitsumabushi trademark. A few streets from Yabaton, Senju makes the small tenmusu rice balls that a restaurant in Tsu first rolled in the 1950s.
Y's Road's Nagoya Honkan in Nishiki is a large sports-bike shop in the centre, open 12:00 to 20:00 with no closing day. The red Charichari share bikes cover the city for short hops at ¥6.5 a minute.
