Stay on Mukaishima for a cheaper guesthouse with bike space, a short ferry ride from Onomichi's restaurants.
Eat in Mukaishima
Mukaishima sits about 200 metres across the channel from Onomichi, close enough that small ferries shuttle across all day. Shipyards line its north shore, building coastal vessels and repairing larger ones. Takamiyama, at 283 metres, is the island's high point and looks out over the islands toward Innoshima.
Riders cross Mukaishima early on the Shimanami route, and the island has its own cycling and walking course, finished in 2013. Guesthouses here run cheaper than Onomichi's hotels, and Guesthouse Onomichi PawPaw keeps an indoor workshop for bikes.
