Kyoto Station is the place to start a ride in Kyoto. Kyoto Cycling Tour Project rents bikes three minutes' walk from its north side, and Cycle Kyoto meets its tour groups two minutes from the Hachijo East exit on the south side.
Fushimi Inari Taisha makes the easy first ride. Kyoto Cycling Tour Project keeps a terminal near the shrine about 15 minutes by bike from the station, and the JR Nara line reaches Inari in two stops. Go early. Cycle Kyoto runs an e-bike tour that reaches the shrine before the crowds and then rides north to Ginkaku-ji on the Path of Philosophy.
Nishiki Market runs for 390 m through the centre and has fed the city for about 400 years. It sits a three-minute walk from Shijo subway station.
