Tsuruya Kihachi suits riders who want hand-cut soba in an 1887 house at Sakamoto, and it closes at 16:00 with last orders half an hour earlier.
What to order
- Zaru soba
- Kamo-nanban soba made with Omi duck from Takashima
- Koayu tsukudani (sweet-simmered baby ayu from the lake) on the side
This is the old Honke Tsuruki Soba, which merged its branches in 2026 into the Sakamoto house and went back to its first trading name, Tsuruya Kihachi. The family traces itself to a Tsuruya Kihachi who cooked for Enryaku-ji and died in 1632. The two-storey irimoya house dates from 1887 and has been a registered tangible cultural property since 1997. Zaru soba is ¥1,280 and the kamo-nanban with Takashima's Omi duck is ¥2,380.
The shop is a minute from Keihan Sakamoto-hieizanguchi and about 10 minutes on foot from JR Hieizan-Sakamoto. It closes only on a fixed list of dates through the year, so check the list before you plan around it.
