Yagyu no Sho

Yagyu no Sho grew out of Yagyu, a Kyoto-kaiseki restaurant that opened in Shirokane, Tokyo, in 1959, and the family brought it to the woods above Shuzenji in 1970. The founder practised kendo, and the name Yagyu comes from that. For the 40th anniversary in 2009 the inn rebuilt its entrance, baths and rooms in full sukiya style with traditional plasterwork.
Each of the 15 rooms is laid out differently. Six have an outdoor bath, six a semi-outdoor one and three a hinoki tub indoors, and every one runs on free-flowing Shuzenji water. The two shared outdoor baths, Musashi-no-yu and Tsu-no-yu, open from 14:00 to 10:00 the next morning and swap at midnight. The water is a mild alkaline simple spring at pH 8.3.
Dinner and breakfast come to the room. The inn posts its menu each month on the news page.
