Azumi Setoda

Azumi Setoda took over the house of the Horiuchi family, who grew rich on salt and shipping, and rebuilt its rooms around a walled garden in sukiya style with cedar and hinoki. Every room has a hinoki bathtub. Guests also bathe free, as often as they like, at yubune, the sister bathhouse across the street.

The kitchen cooks Setouchi produce without sticking to one cuisine, and dinner runs in two seatings that need booking ahead. The two-storey Sora-suzumi and Niwa-suzumi rooms sleep three with futons in a tatami loft. The inn rents standard bikes and e-bikes and runs a guided ride through the lemon groves. The ferry from Mihara reaches Setoda in about 30 minutes.
