Ride it on a Saturday or Sunday between late March and May. Wave Park Namerikawa opens every day for the firefly squid season then. A weekend also keeps you clear of the Wednesday closing at Ikuji and lets the Toyama Chiho Railway carry the bike home without a bag. The bay route runs east from Toyama past Namerikawa and the Uozu mirage coast to Ikuji, the old harbour quarter of Kurobe.
After lunch the plan leaves the bay route and follows the Kurobe River inland to Unazuki Onsen, at the mouth of the gorge. Most of the ten inns look into the gorge, and the public bath has an open-air tub on its third floor. The railway's Unazuki-Onsen station is in the town, so you ride straight from the bath to the platform.
