From Tokyo Station
- Drive
- 29 km from the Nishinasuno-Shiobara IC on the Tohoku Expressway via Route 400 and the Nichien Momiji Line
- Train
- Tohoku Shinkansen to Nasushiobara, 66 minutes on the 8:26 Nasuno in October 2026, then the free booked shuttle, which reaches the resort at 9:30 on weekends and 10:00 on weekdays.
A weekend and New Year shuttle also runs from JR Utsunomiya at 8:00 and Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen at 9:10.
The nearest station is Nasushiobara, 80 minutes from the first lift. Free shuttle on reservation. The weekend bus takes 80 minutes and the weekday bus 90, both with stops in Shiobara.
Parking is free on weekdays. Drivers should check the Tochigi Otawara road office for Route 400 and the Nichien Momiji Line, since a bridge rebuild on Route 400 has put a detour in place.
Hunter Mountain sits at 1,138 m on the Nichien Momiji Line between Shiobara and Kinugawa, and its 2,400 m gondola rises to a summit at 1,638 m. Tokyu Resorts & Stays runs it. Twelve courses carry Manhattan names, from the gentle West Side Street and Broadway near the base to Wall Street and New Madison, which reach 25 degrees.
Start on the Hunter Quad or the No. 1 Quad and string West Side Street into Broadway for about 2 km of easy cruising. Once that feels comfortable, take the gondola to the top for the 3 km run back to the base. Snowmaking covers every course, which is how Hunter opens in late November and has run into late April.
Train riders book the free shuttle. From 12 December 2026 to 28 March 2027 it leaves JR Nasushiobara at 8:10 on weekends and 8:30 on weekdays, and a weekend and New Year bus runs from JR Utsunomiya at 8:00 via Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen. After skiing, the baths of Shiobara wait back down the mountain road.
Worth knowing
- Book the free shuttle on the resort's site before your trip; it runs on reservations only and seats are limited.
- Bring chains or fit winter tyres. The resort says the roads up can ice over even when no snow has fallen.
- Weekday tickets cost ¥1,500 less than peak-date tickets, and primary school children ride free on weekdays.
