Who should base here
Stay in Shiobara for an onsen inn within reach of Hunter Mountain's shuttle, and for the gorge walks in the autumn leaves.
Shiobara Onsen strings eleven hot-spring villages along the Shiobara gorge in the west of Nasushiobara city. The local tourism association lists day baths from riverside rotenburo to Fuku no Yu at the Shiobara Green Village, and the town park at Yuppo no Sato runs a 60 m foot bath through its garden.
Hunter Mountain Shiobara sits up the Nichien Momiji Line between Shiobara and Kinugawa. Its free winter shuttle from Nasushiobara station stops at the prefectural Furumachi car park and at Shin-yu for guests staying in Shiobara, so a ski week here works without a car if you book the bus.
Shiobara is also a base for the self-guided e-bike tours run by the Shiobara Onsen tourism association with Nasu's. Check the Tochigi road office's notices before driving the Nichien Momiji Line in winter.
