Most visiting riders treat Tokyo as the arrival city and the place they fly home from. Tokyo Station sends the Shinkansen north toward Nagano, Niigata and Tohoku and west on the Tokaido line, and Ueno sits a few stops up the same JR tracks. JR East Logistics runs baggage counters inside both stations that keep a bike box for up to 30 days. So you can leave the box in the station, ride the country with a rinko bag and pick the box up on the way to the airport.

For a day ride out of the city, B.B.BASE carries whole bikes from Ryogoku to the Boso Peninsula on set dates, and the Seibu line runs from Ikebukuro to Seibu-Chichibu for the passes round Chichibu. Kamakura and the Shonan coast are on the JR Yokosuka line. Inside the city, Docomo Bike Share's e-assist bikes and Tokyobike's day rentals at Yanaka and Kiyosumi-Shirakawa cover a slow loop of the old east side.

Check the trains to Chiba before you plan Boso. Typhoon No. 25 cut the JR Uchibo line between Anegasaki and Kisarazu in late September 2026, and the Tateyama tourism association passed on JR's estimate of at least three months to repair it. JR runs a replacement bus between Anegasaki and Nagaura, and the Tateyama tourism association counts three changes between Tateyama and Chiba Station.
