Tahara suits riders crossing the Atsumi Peninsula on flat farm roads between two coasts, and most of the beds sit out at Irago on the far tip.

Stay in Tahara to ride the Atsumi Peninsula end to end, with the Pacific surf coast on one side and Mikawa Bay on the other.
Tahara city covers almost the whole Atsumi Peninsula, and the Pacific Cycling Road runs its length from Michi-no-Eki Shiomizaka on the Shizuoka side to Cape Irago. The Toyotetsu line ends at Mikawa-Tahara, so a rider can take the cycle train from Toyohashi and start here. The tourism bureau's list, dated June 2024, has free town bikes going out from the Mikawa-Tahara ticket window and four other counters in the centre, for use inside the city.
On the Pacific side the Rokkun e-bikes rent from Michi-no-Eki Tahara Mekkun House and Akabane Loco Station at ¥500 an hour. You can leave one at another of the peninsula's roadside stations for ¥2,000 extra. The city certifies cafés, shops and inns as Atsumi Cycle Supporters when they have a rack or a repair kit, and some keep a rinko bag to lend; look for the sticker by the door.
If something breaks, the national route council lists five repair stops in the city, from Futabaya in Tahara town to Amano Jitensha in Fukue. The seventh Off-Road Triathlon in Tahara runs on 1 November 2026 from Shiroya Beach Park, with a 23 km mountain-bike leg in the hills behind it.
