Shirasagi-no-Yu suits a cheap, old-fashioned soak in the middle of Gero for ¥470. The trade-off is that it has an indoor bath only.
Know before you bathe
Wash and rinse at the taps before you get in, keep your towel out of the water and tie up long hair.
Getting there
About 12 minutes' walk from Gero Station; the free Venus foot bath is at the entrance.
Shirasagi-no-Yu opened in 1926 in a white Romanesque-style building on the main street, and locals have bathed here ever since. You undress upstairs and walk down to a cypress tub big enough for ten, set on a tatami floor that is less slippery than tile. A ground-floor changing room serves bathers who cannot manage the stairs.
Worth knowing
- Buy the joint ticket with Kur Garden Rotenburo if you want an outdoor bath too.
