Soba Sekigawa suits spring and autumn riders who want soba in a farmhouse from the late Edo period, and its trade-off is a lunch-only kitchen shut all winter.
What to order
- Ni-hachi soba with seasonal tempura
The restaurant fills a farmhouse built in the late Edo period beside the old Sekigawa barrier on the Hokkoku road. The earth-floored hall, the run of tatami rooms and the sunken hearth are still in place.
The soba is ni-hachi, hand-made with two parts wheat to eight of buckwheat, with seasonal tempura. It opens from mid-April to the end of November, 11:00 to 15:00, closed on Wednesdays, and takes cash only. Park at the barrier history museum next door.
