Michi-no-eki Amagigoe suits riders crossing the middle of Izu on Route 414 who want wasabi from the growers and a hot lunch before the Amagi climb, and the trade-off is a restaurant that stops serving at 15:00.
What to order
- Wasabi soft serve
- Wasabi rice bowl
- Fresh wasabi to take away
This roadside station sits in the Amagi forest at Yugashima, the obvious halfway stop between Shuzenji and Kawazu. Growers sell fresh wasabi roots and pickles at the Amagi Wasabi no Sato shop from 8:30 to 16:30 every day. The station's restaurant, Midori no Mori, serves wasabi rice bowls, Izu beef curry and dishes of wild boar and venison.
Wasabi soft serve is the order, and a December 2025 review paid ¥400 for it. Booked visitors can try wasabi harvesting and making wasabi pickles. The Amagi Green Garden next door fills with rhododendrons from early April to early June, which lines up with the spring riding season.
Worth knowing
- The Showa no Mori Kaikan building closes on the third Wednesday of each month.
- Buy a root of wasabi here and grate it at dinner that evening.
