Who should base here
Stay here the night before or after the Wakayama stage of the Pacific Cycling Road; Hotel Granvia Wakayama sits two minutes from the station.
The Pacific Cycling Road runs 1,487 km from Choshi Station in Chiba to Kada port in Wakayama city, by MLIT's count, so this is where the long ride along the Pacific ends. The Wakayama section follows the coast south past Yuasa and the Arida mandarin coast toward Shirahama and the Kii peninsula.
JR West runs cycle trains in Wakayama. Bikes roll aboard unbagged between Wakayama and Gobo on the Kinokuni line, between Wakayama and Gojo on the Wakayama line, and from Gobo to Shingu further south, so you can ride one way and come back by train. The prefecture's WAKAYAMA800 site lists the services and its own list of cyclist-friendly hotels.
