Things to do in Tsukuba
Tsukuba runs from the planned science city around Tsukuba station up to the twin peaks of Mt. Tsukuba in the north. The Tsukuba Express reaches the station from Akihabara in about 45 minutes, and the Mt. Tsukuba shuttle bus takes about 40 minutes more to the shrine.
Mt. Tsukuba Shrine has its hall at 270 m on the southern slope, and the whole mountain above it counts as shrine ground. Cyclists climb from Hojo and the old Tsukuba Railway path, and the Ring-Ring Road's shared rentals operate from the tourist office at Tsukuba station and from the Mt. Tsukuba Gate Park in Hojo.
Hotels by the station suit a late arrival on the Tsukuba Express. Up the mountain, Kamenoi Hotel Tsukubasan has cycling rooms and the restored Kobayashi house takes riders by the shrine.
