Takashima suits riders who want the calmest and greenest stretch of the loop, and its towns are small, with early closing and long gaps between shops.

Takashima runs from Omi-Takashima up to the top of the lake. Makino has the Metasequoia avenue, with Makino Pickland's café beside it, and Kaizu has Korian, where Uoji has fermented carp since 1784. In cherry season the Kaizu-Osaki shore road jams and the Biwaichi map shows a detour. Imazu is the ferry town, with the Sun Bridge hotel on the water and a bike shop in the centre.
Down the shore, Harie is the village where spring water runs through kitchens, and Shin-Asahi has the STAGEX glamping site. Adogawa has a plain hotel right outside the station. Pizzeria Makino shuts for the winter, so check before you ride up in the cold months.
