Osaka suits riders who land at KIX or arrive at Shin-Osaka and want a night of street food before heading out, and its trade-off is city traffic that makes a guided ride the easier way to see it by bike.

Who should base here
Stay here for the first or last night of a Kansai trip; Shin-Osaka puts the Shinkansen and the northbound and southbound limited expresses on one platform map.
Eat in Osaka
Osaka is the arrival city for most of Kansai. Shin-Osaka takes the Shinkansen from Tokyo and the west, and the limited expresses to Kinosaki and Shirahama start here or at Osaka Station one stop south.
Cycle Osaka has guided riders round the city since 2013 from a base in Tenma, 10 minutes' walk from Temmabashi. Its half-day loop covers about 15 km past Osaka Castle and the Japan Mint, and its private e-bike day rides about 55 km out to the hills of Minoh.
Eat takoyaki. Aizuya in Tamade says its founder made the first ones in 1935 and still serves them without sauce. Wanaka fries them at Sennichimae near Namba and in the station building at Shin-Osaka, one floor below the ticket gates.
