Okishima沖島Island
The largest island in Lake Biwa, with a fishing village and boats from Horikiri port.
The merchant quarter along Hachiman-bori has been a protected district since 1991; under the Toyotomi, boats crossing Lake Biwa were ordered to put in at this canal. Hisago-zushi near the station serves Biwa masu sushi and funazushi, and Taneya's La Collina draws the crowds north of the old town. On the lake, Kyukamura at Miyagahama has its own hot spring and a beach.
Okishima is the largest island in Lake Biwa and has a fishing village; boats run out from Horikiri port. The town's name comes from the Himure Hachiman shrine, and the city took the Omi prefix in 1954 to tell itself apart from Yahata in Fukuoka.
