Daitsu-ji大通寺Temple
Nagahama's big Shin Buddhist temple, known locally as Nagahama Gobo.
Hideyoshi built his first castle here, and the town that grew below it is now the Kurokabe quarter of black-plastered merchant houses and glass shops. Nagahama Port sits a few minutes' ride from the station, with Biwako Kisen boats to Chikubushima. Three of the hotels on the shore are Shiga-certified for cyclists, and two of them draw Nagahama Taiko Onsen water. Nagahama Roman Beer pours its own beer in an old rice store by the station.
North of town the loop gets quiet. Mizudori Station on the Kohoku shore and Ajikama no Sato at Shiotsuhama are the reliable stops, and Kinomoto, inland, has the salad pan at Tsuruya Pan and the new Sanken no Yado inn.
